Junk removal for Wellborn and the Wellborn Road corridor

Wellborn began in 1867 as a construction camp for the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. Nobody agrees on the name. It's been credited to a well at the camp, to a foreman named E. W. Wellborn, and to W. W. Wilburn, who owned land there before the Civil War.

It became a cattle shipping point and reached about 400 people by 1910. The Handbook of Texas says it shrank to around 40 by 1950, likely because Bryan and College Station were growing next door.

College Station's 2008 planning report says annexations in the 1990s and 2000s pushed the city limits west along Wellborn Road. So Wellborn-area addresses don't all get the same trash service.

Inside the city, College Station picks up brush and bulky items every week, in separate piles, at the curb by 8 a.m. Outside it, city crews won't come, and the county posts its own rural options on its trash collection page. Look up your address before you set anything out.

Old refrigerators and freezers are where Wellborn's split service gets tricky. College Station won't pick up a freon appliance unless a certified technician has removed the refrigerant and tagged it. On the county side of the line, you'd have to check what Brazos County currently allows.
