From Sebesta's Corner to a city of its own
Snook grew out of a Czech farming settlement about a mile southwest of today's town. It was first called Sebesta, after one of the earliest families. When a post office opened in 1895, it was named for John S. Snook, the postmaster at Caldwell, and Sebesta's families slowly moved toward it.
Jobs in Bryan–College Station pulled people here after better roads came in the 1950s. The Handbook of Texas counts 140 residents in 1950 and 384 in 1970. Snook incorporated in 1972 and finished its city hall in 1975.
