A town-by-town map of who picks up bulky junk, where you can drop it off yourself, and what needs its own route.

Start with where you live

Every pile of junk in the Brazos Valley leaves the same few ways. A city crew picks it up at the curb. You drive it to a drop-off site. You haul it to the landfill. Or you pay someone to load it and take it away.

Which of those you can use depends on your address more than anything. Bryan and College Station both run weekly curb crews. Navasota has no curbside bulky pickup at all. Out in the county, you're working with collection stations that mostly take bagged trash. This guide walks through each place in turn, then ends with a quick way to pick the option that fits your pile.

One tip for every town: rules and hours change. Treat this as a map, and check the city or county page before you load the truck.

Twin Oaks Landfill: the Brazos Valley's landfill

When people search for the Bryan landfill, they mean Twin Oaks. It isn't in Bryan. It sits at 2690 State Hwy 30 in Anderson, which is in Grimes County. It's run by BVSWMA, Inc., which the cities of Bryan and College Station formed in 2010. The landfill opened in 2011.

College Station residents who use Twin Oaks need an ID and a utility bill showing they pay for garbage service, or Twin Oaks staff can check the city's list. The city says small debris a resident made can go there at no extra charge with that ID and a recent bill. Bryan tells residents who go past the weekly brush and bulky limit that they can haul the extra to Twin Oaks themselves.

  • Hours, fees and accepted items: check the Twin Oaks Landfill website before you go, so you're working from today's rules, not an old flyer.
  • College Station says Twin Oaks charges special fees for tires, freon appliances and help unloading.
  • Bryan residents can take refrigerant appliances straight to Twin Oaks for disposal and recycling. College Station residents can bring freon appliances for a special waste fee.
  • College Station lists cooking oil and grease, motor oil, antifreeze, used oil filters, car batteries and tires (for a fee) among what Twin Oaks accepts.
  • College Station's collected brush is hauled to Twin Oaks and shredded into compost and mulch that's for sale.
  • Tarp or tie down anything loose for the drive. That's good practice on any Texas road.

Bryan bulk trash pickup

The City of Bryan picks up brush and bulky items once a week, Monday through Friday. That covers furniture, appliances and large branches. Have it at the curb by 7 a.m. on your day (6 a.m. from June through August), and don't set it out more than 48 hours early.

Placement matters. Piles need to sit at least five feet from buildings, fences, posts, hydrants, parked cars and meters, and not under low branches or wires. Brush goes in one pile and bulky items in another. Cut brush to eight feet or shorter. If the crew skips something, they leave a door hanger saying why.

Bryan caps it at 22 cubic yards per home per week, which is about one city truckload. Anything over that costs extra, or you can haul it to Twin Oaks yourself. Refrigerators, freezers and AC units cost extra to pick up because the city has to remove and certify the refrigerant, unless the unit is already certified.

The curb crew won't take household chemicals, food waste, regular garbage, or leftover building material like concrete, brick and rock. For old tires and used oil, Bryan runs a Used Oil and Tire Recycling Center at 1111 Waco St. It's free for Bryan residents, with up to eight tires (off the rim) and five gallons of oil per visit. More local detail is on our junk removal in Bryan page.

College Station brush and bulky pickup

College Station picks up garbage, brush and bulky items every week, with recycling every other week. Items go at the curb in front of the house by 8 a.m. on collection day.

The city counts furniture, appliances without freon, and anything too big for the cart as bulky. Bags of household garbage don't count. Keep brush and bulky items in separate piles, or the crew will pass the whole thing by. On brush length, the city's own pages don't agree: the FAQ says 5 feet and the printed guide says under 8. Check with the city before you stack it.

Curbside can't take soil, sod, concrete, rock, tires, auto parts, paint, petroleum products or contractor debris. A freon appliance needs a certified technician to remove the refrigerant and tag the unit first. Apartments and businesses aren't on the city route at all; the city sends them to private haulers. And the city asks residents to donate usable items before they set them out. For more on the city, see junk removal in College Station.

Caldwell, Somerville and Hearne

In Caldwell, the city's own sanitation crews handle bulk pickup. Call the Utility Department at 979-567-3271, ext. 100 or 101, to set it up. Put items within 3 feet of the curb, with brush and leaves apart from everything else. The city won't take any appliance with refrigerant. Caldwell also runs a recycling center at the City Warehouse, 1101 Commerce St. See Caldwell for more.

Somerville's curbside trash is handled by BVR Waste & Recycling, which sends residents to the city for brush and bulky items. The city's Collection Station on FM 1361 (East 8th St.) is open Monday 2 to 6 and Wednesday and Saturday 9 to 1. It takes unbagged brush, furniture and white goods whose refrigerant has been drained and tagged. It's for city residents and city utility customers, and permits come from City Hall, which is closed Saturdays. More is on our Somerville page.

Hearne's city website doesn't post brush or bulky rules, so call City Hall before you set anything out.

Out in the county: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes and Robertson

If you live outside city limits, county collection stations are the public option, and they're built for household trash, not furniture piles.

  • Brazos County: for rural sites near Millican, Kurten and Wellborn, go by the locations, hours and rules the county posts on its trash collection page. We don't repeat them here because they can change.
  • Burleson County stations are for county residents and landowners with a yearly vehicle sticker. The Lyons station is at 12776 CR 437, open Wednesday and Saturday 7:30 to 4:30. Stations take no building material and no freon appliances.
  • Grimes County runs sites at Anderson, Bedias, Iola, Stoneham and Whitehall. They take bagged household trash only, paid per bag. Tires go to the Stoneham site, up to 4 per trip.
  • Robertson County lists no county collection stations. In February 2024 it adopted an ordinance that bans dumping solid waste in certain parts of the county.

Paint, chemicals, medicine and tires

BVSWMA holds a household hazardous waste collection event for residents of Brazos, Robertson, Leon, Burleson, Madison, Grimes and Washington counties. For what it accepts and turns away, check the Twin Oaks site before you pack the car.

TCEQ's contact list, updated in September 2026, shows the next one on Oct. 24, 2026, at 3380 University Drive East in College Station.

Tires are a separate trip: College Station lists them among what Twin Oaks takes, for a fee. For old medicine, ask your pharmacist about safe disposal. A paint can less than one-quarter full can be opened, dried out in a ventilated spot, and thrown away, according to TCEQ.

We cover both topics in more depth in household hazardous waste in the Brazos Valley and tire disposal in the Brazos Valley.

Which option fits your pile

A few pieces of furniture in Bryan or College Station: the city curb crew is usually the right call, as long as you follow the placement rules and your week's limit.

A truck or trailer full of mixed junk, and you have the time: Twin Oaks works. Check its current hours and fees before you go, and cover the load.

Heavy items that need two people, things inside the house or upstairs, an apartment with no city pickup, or a pile bigger than one week's limit: that's where a crew earns its keep. ME3 Junk Solutions handles household junk removal across the area. Text photos for a range, and you'll get one firm price before anything gets loaded.
