Navasota junk removal and bulky item haul-off

Republic Services runs Navasota's weekly trash route on contract. Big items are a different story. The city has no curbside bulky pickup. Instead, residents load up to four bulky items per trip, like mattresses, couches, appliances and furniture, and bring them to the Recycle Center at 501 Fifth St. on a Saturday. It's free for residents.

The drop-off turns away household trash, commercial construction debris, yard waste, corrosive materials and tires. So a five-piece bedroom set, a garage of mixed junk, or anything that needs two people and a dolly takes more than one Saturday run.

Yard waste is picked up on a rotation split by Washington Ave. North of it, pickup comes in the first and third weeks of the month. South of it, the second and fourth. The city also calls it a demand service.

Each pile can be up to 10 cubic yards, about 10 by 5 by 5 feet. Logs can't be thicker than 12 inches, and stumps aren't taken. Keep piles 4 feet from parked cars, mailboxes, hydrants, poles and meters, and don't mix in fencing, lumber, metal or bulky items. If you'd rather drive it yourself, the Brush Collection Facility at 9911 CR 415 takes yard waste on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a current utility bill and driver's license.

Twin Oaks Landfill is at 2690 State Hwy 30 in Anderson, still in Grimes County. BVSWMA, set up by Bryan and College Station in 2010, runs it. Before you make the run from Navasota, check its current hours, fees and accepted loads on the Twin Oaks Landfill site.
